Girls Speak! – Woman's Circle Malaysia

What is Girls Speak!?

Girls Speak! is designed for at-risk teenage girls, helping them build resilience and find their voices through creative expression. By engaging in writing, performing, and visual arts, these girls explore their inner worlds, develop self-confidence, and gain the tools needed to overcome the challenges they face—whether related to gender-based violence, bullying, or societal pressures.

The program nurtures their creativity and leadership potential, empowering them to grow into resilient women who can pursue careers in the creative economy and beyond, while also becoming advocates for themselves and their communities.

The Challenges

“86.99% of girls are enrolled in secondary education, but only 48.74% transition to tertiary education. Many girls from marginalised communities drop out due to financial constraints and societal pressures.”
“9.5% of girls who have engaged in sexual activity experience teenage pregnancy, leading to school dropouts and limited opportunities.”
“18-21% of female youth are classified as NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), limiting their path to economic independence.”
“30% of teenage girls report experiencing bullying, while many face various forms of violence, making safe learning environments critical.”
“Up to 50% of sexual assaults in Malaysia involve girls under age 16.”

How Girls Speak! Helps teen girls at risk

Unlock the potential of at-risk girls through creativity and leadership.
