What is Girls Speak!?
Girls Speak! is a performing arts-based education programme by Women’s Circle of Malaysia, designed for girls aged 13–17 to express themselves through storytelling, theatre, movement, and reflective sharing.
We guide girls to explore their emotions, build self-awareness, and develop inner confidence — not through performance for others, but through presence with themselves.
The Challenges
“86.99% of girls are enrolled in secondary education, but only 48.74% transition to tertiary education. Many girls from marginalised communities drop out due to financial constraints and societal pressures.”
“9.5% of girls who have engaged in sexual activity experience teenage pregnancy, leading to school dropouts and limited opportunities.”
“18-21% of female youth are classified as NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), limiting their path to economic independence.”
“30% of teenage girls report experiencing bullying, while many face various forms of violence, making safe learning environments critical.”
“Up to 50% of sexual assaults in Malaysia involve girls under age 16.”
